Understanding Brow Lamination Longevity
Brow lamination reshapes your brow hairs by breaking and reforming the internal bonds that determine their natural direction. This is achieved through a three-step chemical process:
- Lifting solution breaks the hair's disulfide bonds, softening the structure so hairs can be brushed into a new shape
- Neutraliser re-forms the bonds, locking hairs into their new direction
- Nourishing cream restores moisture and strengthens the hair after processing
As your brows naturally shed and regrow (typically on a 6-8 week cycle), the laminated hairs are replaced by new, untreated growth — which is why results gradually fade.
Factors That Affect How Long Results Last
Your Hair Type
Fine brow hairs are more delicate and reshape easily during lamination. They often hold the treatment longer. Coarse, thick hairs are more resistant and may require longer processing time — but the results are still effective.
Hair Growth Cycle
Your brow hairs go through three phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (shedding). If most of your brows are in the growth phase at treatment time, you may notice results fading slightly sooner as those hairs shed naturally.
Aftercare Routine
The first 24-48 hours are critical. Water, steam, and oil-based products can disrupt the bonds before they fully set. Following proper aftercare can add weeks to your results.
Skincare Products
Active ingredients like retinol, AHA, BHA, and vitamin C can affect the treatment's longevity. If you use these products, apply them away from the brow area or wait until after your lamination appointment.
How to Make Brow Lamination Last Longer
- Keep brows dry for 24-48 hours Avoid water, steam, sweat, and swimming immediately after treatment
- Avoid oil-based products Oil can break down the bonds — use oil-free makeup remover near brows
- Brush brows daily Use a clean spoolie to train hairs into their new direction each morning
- Apply nourishing brow oil Castor oil or rosemary oil keeps brows healthy and hydrated
- Skip retinol near brows Apply actives to the rest of your face but avoid the brow area
- Don't sleep on your face Friction can disrupt the lifted shape — try sleeping on your back
When to Book Your Next Appointment
Most clients book their next brow lamination every 6-8 weeks. However, spacing out treatments is important — we recommend waiting at least 6 weeks between appointments to avoid overprocessing the hair.
Signs it's time to rebook:
- Brow hairs are returning to their natural direction
- The lifted, fluffy effect has visibly relaxed
- New growth is noticeably different from treated hairs
