First 24 Hours (Critical Period)
Both the hair tint and skin stain need time to fully oxidise and set. What you do in the first day determines how long your results last.
Avoid
- Getting brows wet (shower, rain, washing face)
- Cleansers or soap on the brow area
- Steam, saunas, and hot showers
- Sweating (gym, hot yoga, running)
- Touching, rubbing, or scratching brows
- Makeup on or around the brow area
- Oil-based skincare products near brows
Do
- Pat dry gently if brows get splashed
- Wash face below the brow line only
- Sleep on your back to avoid smudging
- Enjoy the deeper colour — it will soften
Understanding Your Results
Hybrid tint works on two levels, and each fades on its own timeline. Knowing this helps you plan touch-ups and set realistic expectations.
Skin stain at full depth
The stain beneath your hairs creates maximum shadow and definition. Your brows will look boldest during this stage — this is the peak result.
Skin stain fades, hair tint holds
The skin stain gradually lightens through natural cell turnover. Your brows will still look coloured and shaped thanks to the hair tint, but the shadow beneath softens.
Hair tint fades naturally
The dye on your brow hairs gradually washes out. By week four, most clients are ready for a fresh application to reset both components.
This two-tone fading is completely normal and intentional. The skin stain provides an early boost, while the hair tint carries your colour through the full cycle.
Extending Your Colour
- Cleanse gently around brows Use a soft cloth and water-based cleanser. Avoid direct rubbing across the brow area.
- Skip exfoliation on the brow zone Exfoliating accelerates skin cell turnover and strips the skin stain faster. Keep scrubs and acids away from your brows.
- Protect brows from the sun UV exposure fades both the skin stain and hair tint. Wear a hat or apply SPF near your brows when outdoors.
- Avoid chlorine and saltwater Pool and ocean water strip tint significantly. If swimming, keep your face out of the water or rinse brows with fresh water immediately after.
- Stay away from oil-based products Oil dissolves tint molecules. Switch to water-based or micellar cleansers for the brow area.
Pro tip: Most clients at our Canley Vale studio find that simply being mindful of their cleanser and avoiding exfoliation on the brow area adds an extra week to their skin stain.
Products to Avoid Near Brows
These ingredients and product types strip colour from both the skin stain and hair tint:
Oil-Based Cleansers
Use micellar water or a gentle water-based cleanser instead
Exfoliating Scrubs
Physical exfoliants remove skin cells and the stain with them
AHA/BHA Acids
Glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acids accelerate skin stain fading
Retinol & Retinoids
Increases cell turnover — apply to the rest of your face only
Recommended Aftercare Products
- Micellar water Oil-free makeup removal that won't strip your tint
- Water-based gentle cleanser For daily face washing — use around and below the brow area
- SPF moisturiser or hat Sun protection preserves both the skin stain and hair colour
- Clear brow gel Sets brows in place without interfering with tint (safe after 24 hours)
Common Aftercare Questions
My brows look very dark right after treatment — is this normal?
Yes. The colour always appears darker in the first 24-48 hours while both the skin stain and hair tint are at full intensity. It will soften to a natural shade as the skin stain settles.
The skin stain faded but my brow hairs are still tinted — is that right?
Completely normal. The skin stain lasts 1-2 weeks while the hair tint lasts 3-4 weeks. They are designed to fade at different rates, giving you a gradual, natural transition rather than an abrupt colour drop-off.
Can I wear brow makeup over a hybrid tint?
After the first 24 hours, yes. Most clients find they need less product since the tint provides a solid base. Use powder or pencil products and remove with micellar water rather than oil-based remover.
I accidentally got my brows wet — what should I do?
Gently blot dry with a tissue immediately. Do not rub. A brief splash is unlikely to ruin results, but prolonged water exposure in the first 24 hours can lighten the skin stain.
When to Rebook
For consistent colour and definition, rebook your hybrid brow tint every 3-4 weeks. This timing catches both the skin stain (which has faded) and the hair tint (which is beginning to fade), so you reset both components together.
If you prefer a lower-maintenance schedule, every 4-5 weeks still works well. The hair tint will carry you through the last week or two, and your brows will never look completely bare between appointments.
